In an effort to strengthen cooperation between the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra and the province's production and service sectors, the college has begun implementing landscaping projects for gardens and parks within oil sites. This includes the creation of green belts around oil wells and other oil installations, all aimed at improving the local environment and reducing pollution in industrial areas.
This initiative falls under the college's community service and collaboration programs with oil companies. A specialized team of professors from the Horticulture and Landscape Engineering Department is responsible for preparing the engineering and agricultural designs and implementing the fieldwork according to the latest scientific specifications and international environmental standards.
The Dean of the College of Agriculture emphasized that these projects represent a significant step in utilizing academic expertise to serve the local environment and activate the university's role in sustainable development. He noted that the college seeks to expand this experience to include various industrial and service sectors in the province.
He further explained that the green belts being created around oil wells contribute to reducing the environmental impact of gas and dust emissions, improving air quality, and creating a healthier working environment for employees.
For their part, representatives of the oil companies expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the University of Basra and the College of Agriculture in supporting environmental projects and providing sustainable solutions that combine natural beauty and environmental protection.
