As part of its scientific and community service role and its application of academic expertise in the field, the Agricultural Consulting Office at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, has begun providing technical and scientific supervision to several local olive presses, including Dar Al-Shifa Press, Al-Mousawi Press, and the Mu'jiza Tayba Factory. The aim is to improve production efficiency and ensure the safety and quality of food products.
Through this collaboration, the office has formed a specialized team from the Departments of Food Science and Field Crops to provide technical supervision and consultation at all stages of food production, from receiving raw materials through pressing and packaging to marketing.
The work also includes collecting representative samples of various products and conducting thorough laboratory analyses, including microbiological, sensory, and physical tests, to ensure that the products conform to national standards and food quality criteria.
The Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, affirmed that this step comes within the framework of strengthening the college's applied role in serving the local community and activating the work of the consulting office as a reliable scientific body providing technical support to the industrial and food sectors. He pointed out that the college continues to support local production projects with scientific consultations and accredited analyses that contribute to improving the quality of national products.
For their part, representatives of the cooperating olive oil mills expressed their deep appreciation for the scientific and field role played by the College of Agriculture, noting that cooperation with the university has contributed to improving the quality of production and enhancing confidence in the safety of products offered in local markets.
