The Agricultural Consulting Office at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, has signed a preliminary agreement with TotalEnergies to implement joint development and agricultural projects.

In a significant step to enhance cooperation between academic institutions and international companies, the Agricultural Consulting Office at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, announced a preliminary agreement with TotalEnergies, a leading French company in the energy and sustainable development sector. The agreement aims to collaborate on joint projects serving the agricultural and environmental sectors in Basra Governorate.

This agreement focuses on developing scientific and applied initiatives in land rehabilitation, green space creation, water resource management, and improving ecosystems surrounding oil and industrial sites. It also includes the implementation of specialized training and technical consulting programs to support sustainable agricultural development in the region.

The Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, emphasized that this collaboration represents a strategic step towards expanding the university's international partnerships. He noted that it embodies the Agricultural Consulting Office's role in providing scientific and technical expertise to serve the productive and economic sectors, adding that the agreement with TotalEnergies reflects the confidence of international companies in the capabilities of the University of Basra and its academic staff.

Al-Shawi explained that the next phase will involve preparing a joint action plan to implement the agreed-upon projects, under the direct supervision of the college's consulting team and in coordination with the company's technical departments, ensuring the highest standards of quality and environmental sustainability.

For its part, TotalEnergies expressed its appreciation for the fruitful cooperation with the University of Basra, affirming its desire to strengthen the long-term scientific and technical partnership to serve agricultural and environmental development in Iraq.
